  1. Churchill was of course referring to the Battle of Britain RAF pilots who effectively changed the course of WWII. The Battle of Britain took place from 10th July to 31st October 1940. The RAF had some 1,960 aircraft and the enemy over 2,500 however the RAF’s air superiority won over and although the RAF lost around 540 crew the enemy lost nearly 2,700. At the end of the Battle of Britain there were some 90,000 civilian casualties – 40,000 of which were fatal.
    I’d like to believe that humanity learns from its mistakes – but current world events seem to prove otherwise.
